Play at St. John's Hospital on May 10, 2013

At St. John's Hospital there is a nine member drama group that makes a performance for the staff, patients and visitors (guardians). All group members are hospital employees and play is performed once or twice a month. The topics deal with health care issues such as; personal hygiene, sanitation, safe sex and protection, fidelity in the marriage, etc.
This play was done on May 10. In spite of the play performed in Chitumbuka (local language in Northern Malawi), I was able to understand all based on their excellent performance and mimics. The comedy about safe sex and extramarital affairs. The husband claimed to go to the forest to chop the wood for the family, although he went with another woman to have sex in the forest. Wife went to the same forest with her lover - another woman. Accidentally they bumped into each others and there was a lot of run n the forest. The end was happy one.
These play are very useful to promote health activities in a fun and entertaining way. Also it deals with serious topics such as: infidelity, homosexuality and safe sex for which there is a lot of resistance to changes in the traditional Malawian culture.
