Vwaza National Park - Hippos

Hippos are bets looked around the larger pools and lakes. Again Lake Kazuni is a favorite spot. They graze underwater as well as on land and spend little time during day out of water especially when it is hot. Occasionally large numbers can be seen basking on mud banks of lake Kazuni and they can be approached quite closely when water separates them form the observers. In most circumstances hippos are not especially dangerous in the sense they would attack a human. A real problem is that they do not take kindly to anyone blocking their paths and will simply carry on running – quite fast – regardless of what is in the way. Since they can weight 2,500 kilograms it is better to avoid such a situation.
